Sam Poluski Jr was the son of William Nelson Govett and Nettie Waite. His sisters were the Sisters Govelle – Lottie and Winifred. His brother Bill was married to Rosie Lloyd – Marie Lloyd’s sister.
Sam was appearing in panto from a young age. In 1907, at the age of 17 he was appearing in Humpty Dumpty at the Grande Theatre, Glasgow, with Clarice Mayne, Mabel Green and Fred Kitchen.
Sam was also part of the famous Fred Karno company, with Gus McNaughton and Charlie Chaplin. He appeared in Karno’s Mumming Birds at the Abertillery Pavillion in 1908.
From 1910-11 Sam was appearing with his sister Winifred Ward in Jack Horner at the Princes Theatre in Bristol.
Sam continued in the theatre for many years until he retired to Worthing where he died in 1977.
